Discover an innovative, eco-friendly insulating material made in Québec from pure milkweed floss fibres, a natural, local material known for its exceptional thermal performance, its water-repellent properties and its breathable, antimicrobial qualities. Unique in the world, milkweed batting is up to 3 times more effective than standard polyester insulation, while remaining vegan, washable, industrially compostable and durable.

Unlike many synthetic materials, milkweed is a renewable resource. It is grown responsibly and organically, and helps threatened monarch butterfly populations survive by creating new habitat and breeding grounds: monarch caterpillars feed exclusively on milkweed leaves during the summer, before their migration.
This natural material is also machine washable and dryable on the delicate cycle, for easy care without compromising durability. Unlike goose or duck down, milkweed repels water and keeps its insulating power even when a garment is damp or compressed. Warmer than wool, more effective than down and naturally hydrophobic, milkweed is the ideal plant-based alternative to synthetic and animal-derived insulation, offering high performance and environmental responsibility at once, a rare combination.

The milkweed comes from here
It is grown in Quebec, harvested in the fall, then turned into insulation at our workshop in Limoilou. That is the part we do not outsource: it is where our know-how sits, and it is what gives the plant value out in the fields. Final assembly of most of our products happens with partners abroad. We would rather write that plainly than let you assume otherwise.
Responsible and cruelty-free
The oil used to manufacture synthetic insulation is getting scarcer and more expensive, while down is questionable from an ethical standpoint. Milkweed can be farmed industrially in a win-win formula for nature and humans and performs better than its counterparts.

By purchasing a Lasclay product, you are directly helping the monarchs, an endangered species. An abundance of milkweed in rural areas provides them with invaluable breeding grounds before their great migration, after which we harvest the floss.
